Partnering with communities

VMR is conscious of the important role that host and neighbouring communities play at our operations and in terms of the business. It is a fundamental principle at VMR that our operations and the activities associated with operating our mines should have a net positive effect on this critical body of stakeholders.

To this end, we foster constructive and co-operative engagement with communities. Given that these communities are frequently situated outside the urban reach, low levels of education, employment and income are prevalent. Mining companies are often the only major employers in these areas.

Through our engagement processes, we have identified that the provision of infrastructure and support for educational facilities are among the most pressing needs in our neighbouring communities.
